MOULD ALLERGY
Mould spores are present in the air, both inside and outside the home. Different “indoor” moulds develop in damp, warm, poorly ventilated rooms; moist cellars; bathrooms; cold, moist outside walls; wallpaper; the backs of framed pictures; carpets; humidifiers and air conditioning systems; potted plants; refrigerators etc. Moulds also develop on food: fruits, vegetables, bread, cheese etc. “Outdoor” moulds are found on all kinds of plants and on vegetable matter such as compost, leaves, straw etc. Airborne mould spores are impossible to avoid. Preventing & Treating Mould Allergy Ensure that moulds are prevented from developing on the indoor sources above, by thorough regular cleaning. Pay particular attention to cleaning damp areas such as window frames, bath seal, shower curtains etc. with bleach. Keep rooms dry with good air circulation, ventilation and heating. Eliminate moisture on walls, windows etc. Avoidance Measures Avoid garden work such as mowing and spreading compost. Avoid mould exposure at work: e.g. farming (moulds in manure, hay/straw, stored grain etc.); bakers (grain, flour). Avoid general irritants such as smoke, fumes etc. Treatment of Allergy Symptoms The long-term treatment of mould allergy involves the relief or suppression of symptoms using medication in the form o tablets, inhalers etc. depending on the location, form and severity of symptoms. Your doctor will prescribe the treatment most suitable for you. ------------------------------------------------- Acknowledgement: Diagenics Information Services South House 3 Bond Avenue Bletchley Milton Keynes MK1 1SW To purchase any Diagenics products, you can call or email them on: Tel: 01908 376376 / Email: info@diagenics.co.uk Alternatively, you can place your order and pay online at their website: www.diagenics.co.uk/catalog |
