Hearing Tests
Our Audiologist performs diagnostic hearing tests for patients above 3 years old. The results will be explained at the appointment and the results sent to doctors involved in your care.If needed referrals to ENT are be made .

Flexible Endoscopy in Children
It may be necessary to examine your child’s airway with a fibreoptic endoscope (camera).
Whilst this sounds like a difficult thing to do in a child, they in fact tolerate this remarkably well.
The procedure involves placing some local anaesthetic on some cotton wool in the nose for about 20 minutes. This does not hurt but can make the nose feel blocked and leave a slightly bitter taste
The actual examination takes only a couple of minutes

Rigid Endoscopy
Rigid endoscopy through the mouth is a procedure where a telescope with an angled lens is used to examine the back the throat and voice box (larynx).
The examination is particularly useful for examination of the throat and the vocal folds and gives much clearer images but is more suited to older children and adults.

Nasal Cautery
Nasal cautery is a treatment for nose bleeds where a silver nitrate coated stick is used to seal of the blood vessels that are causing the nose bleeds
This works by the generation of heat when the silver nitrate makes contact with water and this seals the blood vessels.

Voice assessment
The practice offers a diagnostic voice assessment service with both rigid and flexible endoscopes with stroboscopy. The voice service is supported by Consultant Voice Therapists and patients have access to joint Paediatric ENT and Voice Therapy clinics.

Microsuction & Microscopic Ear Procedures
The practice offers facilities for cleaning ears and removal of foreign bodies under microscopic guidance.

Tongue Tie division
For babies under 3 months with tongue ties and who have difficulty with breastfeeding, we are able to offer a tongue tie division service carried out by a Consultant Surgeon with the assistance of a Paediatric Nurse.

Epley Manoeuvre to treat BPPV
The Epley manoeuvre is an exercise performed to treat a type of vertigo called benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). BPPV is caused by a problem in the inner ear. It is often associated with older age, but things like head injuries or viral infections and stress can also cause it. The Epley manoeuvre can be carried out by an audiologist or doctor to relieve symptoms. Intratympanic Steroid Injection
In patients with sudden hearing loss who have not responded to oral steroids one can inject steroids through the eardrum filling up the middle ear so that they can be absorbed into the cochlea (inner ear). The dose given is quite high and since it works locally there are few side effects.
